Two Are Better

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 (ESV)

I started my blog Applied Heart in February 2013. I wanted a venue where, in a timely fashion, I could share my thoughts on current events and cultural developments. I also wanted to share personal reflections from life of a varied and diverse nature; “slices of life” my family used to call such musings.

Seven years later I lament that I’ve been far less regular in writing commentary and reflections than I intended. Like a bed unmade or a room untidied, my blog felt like a project needing attention, but my attention has nevertheless remained far less than I hoped.

In discussions with son-in-law Steve I’ve made this same lament, and we’ve talked in the past about pooling our resources and sharing a common blog. But even with two of us, we felt we’d be stretched trying to reach our goal of getting a new article out each week. We needed additional backup; we needed a third contributor.

In Steve’s discussion with friend and former work mate Lee Anderson, we found the additional contributor we needed, and our three-strand cord was complete.

You can read Steve’s and Lee’s short biographies at the About the Authors page.

Mike Halpin

While we three share much in the way of worldview, our articles will be diverse in topic and style. My offerings will continue to primarily be reflections on current developments in the church and wider culture, with some film and book reviews as well.

Steve Golden

Steve will focus on academic/cultural issues from a Biblical perspective and will use his background in literature to offer film and book reviews with an eye toward what Christians can take away from them.

Lee Anderson

Lee will tend toward longer articles focusing on more specifically Biblical, theological, and ethical topics; these will be serialized so that each week’s offering remains a manageable length.

You’ll notice a new, cleaner layout of the site (thank you, Steve) highlighting more posts simultaneously, making navigating new as well as older posts easier.

I look forward to the future of Applied Heart and am personally excited about Steve’s & Lee’s offerings. I know I’ll benefit from their insights and wit and believe you will too.

I’m excited! I glanced at your Applied Heart blog site & am so impressed!
Later after devotions and my last shopping trip before the “stay at home” Topeka goes in effect, I’ll relax and enjoy your blog.
